The income module handles both a salary and self-employed invoicing.

Sources

A source is a recurring stream of income — an employer, a client, a tenancy. Against each one you record payments with a date and an amount.

Contract work

For a source billed by invoice you can record the invoice number along with tax and VAT set aside. These are the numbers easiest to forget: the money that lands in your account is not all yours, and the difference only becomes obvious when the payment is due.

Amounts set aside are shown separately, so the "available" balance does not include money you will have to hand over anyway.

How this relates to taxes

Amounts set aside here do not automatically create a liability in the Taxes module — that stays a separate decision. It keeps duplicates from appearing when advances are paid in one lump for a whole period.
