Loans and credit with a monthly payment, an interest rate and a number of payments.

What to record

You need: the principal, the annual interest rate, the monthly payment, the number of payments and the date of the first one. Those are enough to work out everything else.

Recording a payment

Clicking "payment made" moves the schedule along and records the expense in your budget, if you have assigned the loan to a category.

What "remaining" means

The module shows "remaining" as the payment times the number of payments left — that is the total of future payments including interest, not the principal on its own.

The distinction matters when you overpay: the overpayment calculator works out the principal separately, by amortising from the start, because an overpayment reduces the principal rather than the sum of future payments.

Next: overpayment

When you have several debts and spare money each month, look at the Overpayment module — it works out how much sooner you would be free under different methods.
