Goals

Measurable progress against a deadline — money or any other number.

A goal is an amount or a count, a deadline, and the progress you record against it.

Four parts

Every goal needs a target value, a starting point, a deadline and recorded contributions. Without the starting point the progress comes out wrong — if you have 8,000 saved already, a goal of 60,000 means 52,000 still to find.

The monthly amount required

The app works out how much you need to put aside each month to make it. That is the number that changes behaviour, not the target itself — and it is the one that shows whether the goal is realistic.

When your pace drops below what is required, the goal is flagged as at risk.

Goals that are not about money

A goal can use a unit other than currency: kilometres, books, workouts. The mechanics are identical, because "run 500 km" obeys exactly the same rules as "save 60,000".

Contributions, not a running balance

You record individual contributions, not the current state. The history of contributions tells you whether the pace is holding — and that is the only information you can actually react to in time.
