Work hours calculator

Enter when you started, when you finished and how long the unpaid break was. The calculator adds up hours and minutes across days, writes them as decimals the way payroll wants them, works out overtime over the daily norm and, if you give a rate, the pay with the supplement. How to count hours

  1. For each day, subtract the start time from the end time. When a shift ends after midnight, add 24 hours.
  2. Subtract the unpaid break. Do not subtract statutory breaks that count as working time.
  3. Add the days up, turning every 60 minutes into an hour.
  4. For payroll, divide the minutes by 60: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 h.
  5. Overtime is the time over that day's norm, usually 8 hours.

When does work count as overtime?

Under the Polish Labour Code, overtime is work beyond the working time norms that apply to you, usually 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week on average, and beyond the longer daily hours of your working time system.

How much is the overtime supplement?

On top of normal pay, Polish law gives a 100% supplement for overtime at night, on Sundays and holidays that are not your working days, and on a day off given for working a Sunday or holiday. On other days it is 50%. Rules elsewhere differ, so pick the percentage your contract uses.

Do I subtract breaks?

Only unpaid ones. In Poland a working day of 6 hours or more includes a paid 15 minute break, with a second after 9 hours and a third after 16, and those count as working time.

Add 24 hours to the end time: 22:00 to 6:00 is 8 hours. The calculator does this itself when the end is earlier than the start.

How many overtime hours are allowed in a year?

The Polish Labour Code caps them at 150 hours per calendar year unless a collective agreement, work rules or the contract set another number, and total weekly hours including overtime may not exceed 48 on average.
